At Curve, we believe every bride deserves a stress-free, joyful, and empowering wedding dress shopping experience. Our Jacksonville bridal boutique was created with plus-size brides in mind, offering a beautiful selection of plus-size wedding dresses in an inclusive, welcoming environment. But behind the racks of gowns and magical “yes” moments are our talented bridal stylists, who help bring each bride’s vision to life.

Today, we’re sitting down with Shayna- one of our amazing stylists, to get a behind-the-scenes look at her journey, what inspires her, and how she helps Curve brides find the dress of their dreams.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you became a bridal stylist?

Of course! I was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, and I’ve always been a creative person. I’m a self-taught artist, and I love painting—anything that lets me express myself. After high school, I started working for a local florist, which introduced me to many vendors in the wedding industry. A close friend was recruited to work at a bridal store, and soon after, I followed. At just 19, I had no idea what I was doing—I was honestly pretty bad at it at first! I almost quit, but I had wonderful mentors who believed in me, and I’m so thankful they encouraged me to keep going.

2. What inspired you to work in bridal fashion specifically?

I actually fell into bridal fashion by chance, but I stayed because it’s never boring and always so much fun. I’ve always loved fashion and considered myself stylish, and bridal fashion is like an elevated, magical version of everyday style. It blends trends with timeless beauty, and that keeps me inspired.

3. How long have you been a stylist, and what’s your favorite part of the job?

I’ve been in the bridal industry for 13 years, and about 8 of those have been as a stylist. My favorite part is helping a bride find “the dress.” It’s like putting together a puzzle—but it’s also about helping women see themselves in a whole new way, as a bride, as the most beautiful version of themselves. At Curve Bridal Collection, it’s even more meaningful because, unlike much of the fashion world, there are no size limits here. Watching brides realize they can have that magical moment in plus-size wedding dresses without being restricted is truly powerful.

4. What’s the first thing you ask a bride when she comes in for an appointment?

It really depends on the bride, but I usually ask about the wedding itself—the when, where, and overall vibe. Those details help me understand how she wants to look and feel on her big day.

5. How do you help brides who feel overwhelmed or unsure of what they want?

I remind them that not knowing is completely normal! Finding your dress is part style, part feeling. It doesn’t always need to make sense—you’ll just know when it’s “the one.” Trusting that moment takes the pressure off.

6. What are some common misconceptions brides have about wedding dress shopping?

As a plus-size woman, I know how frustrating everyday shopping can be—those dressing room struggles are real. Many brides assume wedding dress shopping will feel the same way, but that’s simply not true. At a bridal boutique like Curve, stylists are here to make the process fun, supportive, and stress-free. That’s what we love to do.

7. What dress trends are you loving right now?

I love gowns with color! Whether it’s subtle floral patterns or bold bows, it’s exciting to see designers experimenting with color in new ways.

8. What’s something most people don’t realize about being a bridal stylist?

It’s hard work! After years of lifting gowns, I’m pretty sure I could win an arm wrestle against just about anyone.

9. What’s your #1 piece of advice for brides before their first appointment?

Do your research! Pick the Jacksonville bridal boutique or designer you’re most excited about and start there. Don’t overthink it—allow yourself to enjoy the moment and embrace your “bridal era.”

10. What should brides bring (or avoid bringing) to their appointment?

Bring an open mind. Anything can happen, queens.

11. How can a bride make the most of her bridal styling experience?

Be completely honest with your stylist. The more transparent you are about your budget, style preferences, or even small details you love or dislike, the better. I can’t read minds, but if you share your vision, I’ll do everything in my power to make it come true.

12. Any final thoughts for brides-to-be?

I feel so blessed to do what I love every day—and even more so to work for women who believe that every bride deserves to feel beautiful. Curve Bridal Collection is such a special place, and if you’re looking for plus-size wedding dresses in Jacksonville, I encourage you to make an appointment and give yourself the experience you deserve. I can’t wait to meet you!
