Hitting the road for a lush destination wedding and you’re not sure how to transport your pristine wedding dress?

Fortunately, you’re not the first bride to deal with this situation. While flying on a plane or taking a road trip with your gown might bring on stress, there are plenty of tricks to keep your precious cargo dirt and damage-free.

We’ve got a list of fail-proof tips for traveling with your wedding dress right here in this post!

Airplane Travel

We hope you weren’t planning on stuffing your wedding dress into a suitcase and checking it as luggage. We’re pretty sure you won’t like how it looks when you pull it out at your destination!

Instead, you can totally carry on your dress, zipped up safe and sound within a garment bag.

You can also call your airline ahead of time and let them know that you are traveling with your wedding dress. Oftentimes there is an on-board closet for the flight attendants, but usually, they’ll let you store your dress there if you inquire first in advance.

Road Trippin’

While driving in a car with your dress is considered to be the safest travel option since you have more control over the environment, still take care.

Steer clear of the ceiling handle for hanging your dress (think of the exposure to sunlight or if someone accidentally puts the window down).

Instead, fold down the backseats if possible and lay a sheet on top. Follow up with your dress garment bag, laying it flat on top of the sheet. Cover it with another clean sheet, and you’re golden.

If you’re not able to fold the backseats, just lay it across the seat itself.

Shipping

True, your dress is out of your hands completely here, but shipping can actually be a cost-effective and safe option, especially if you’re traveling internationally.

The key is to go with a reputable shipping company like UPS or Fedex. They are professionals, who will know exactly how to handle a wedding dress- they’ve shipped thousands!

You can even add insurance to your package for peace of mind and remember to bring along a travel garment steamer in case any wrinkles present themselves.
